Most pets aren’t strangers to skin disorders, which are often brought on by allergies. Our hospital frequently helps pets with allergies, and we’re well-versed in the frustrations that allergies can cause for pets and their humans. When your pet’s skin is raw, itchy and uncomfortable and you're at a loss about what to do—our veterinarians can provide the help you need!
It’s important to get excessive scratching or licking concerns addressed quickly because they can lead to open sores and pain, and even create additional anxiety or behavior problems for your pet.

WHAT ARE THE MAIN CAUSES OF ITCHING IN PETS?
Pruritus is the medical term for itchy skin, which is common. Allergies are not the only possible cause, but they tend to be the most frequent. Itching can be caused by conditions such as:
- Pyoderma (hot spots)
- Yeast infections of the skin
- Bacterial infections
- Skin cancer
Our veterinarians are experienced in diagnosing and treating skin disorders and allergic reactions. Keeping your pet's skin healthy and removing the cause of any allergic reaction will bring your pet much needed relief and protect against secondary issues such as skin infections.
We determine whether the root of the condition is a behavioral issue, parasite, skin infection, or something else, and work with you on a plan to help your pet feel better.
What our clients have to say:
The staff takes such good care of all my animals from our bearded dragon our chinchillas and kitten. You can really tell about a person by the way animals attract to a person. I would highly recommend...

Forever grateful to the fantastic vets and staff at Flatt Veterinary. My senior cat needed emergency euthanasia on a very icy day in January. Most offices were closed due to the bad weather, but not Flatt Veterinary. The staff immediately told me to bring her in, met me at my car, and were extremely kind and gentle throughout the most heart wrenching experience of my life. They had to shave a patch of fur to insert the IV and saved it for me to keep. They also gave me time alone to say goodbye and to mourn after she had passed. They were even kind enough to send a bereavement card.
I know these aren't the moments we like to think about when choosing a vet, but these are the moments that matter the most. When my pet was in incurable pain, Flatt Veterinary was there to help her find peace.

Took my Annabelle here for her first shots and worming. They were very friendly with us and we got her first shots for a great price. My dog is very scared of things at this age and they made her feel very comfortable!
